Olympic track star Nick Symmonds went to Staten Island last month to host a meet and greet and free clinic at the Hilton Garden Inn in Bloomfield. During his time there he talked to people about his training, accomplishments, and also gave some great tips on how to get motivated and perform at their very best. Both adults and kids showed up to the event from around the area for the 6 p.m. event, and even though it was free there were reservations required so last minute attendees were not able to get in. Overall it was a great time and the fans really enjoyed interacting with the runner.
The Boise native attended Willamette University in Salem, Oregon where he earned a degree in biochemistry while participating in the Oregon Track Club and competing at the NCAA III level. He currently holds the number one title for the 800m event in NCAA Division III history and is ranked number three for his 1500m records. He first attempted to join the U.S. Olympic Team for the 2008 Beijing Olympics but unfortunately didn’t make the cut, however he tried again for the 2012 London Olympics and made it on the roster. Even though he didn’t medal at that event, he did earn the silver at the 2013 World Championships in Athletics in Moscow.
Symmonds hosted a free clinic and meet and greet on Staten Island on September 27th and it was a fun experience for the fans of all ages.
