Tobias Harris Habitat for HumanityOrlando loves basketball and the Magic love their community. On Thursday, Orlando Magic forward Tobias Harris and point guard Jameer Nelson participated in the Habitat for Humanity Orlando home build. Harris and Nelson were joined by Magic Community Ambassadors Nick Anderson and Bo Outlaw, along with 20 other Magic employees.

In the four years of the program, the Magic have sponsored five homes in the Stag Horn Villas section of Orlando.

In a statement, Habitat for Humanity Orlando Director of Development Lynn Ivanek said, “We are thankful for our ongoing partnership with the Orlando Magic. They understand the meaning of giving back and with their contribution of time, sweat and treasure they have made the dream of home ownership a reality for five deserving families.”

The Orlando Magic organization as a whole is very active in the community. In the 2012-13 season, Magic employees clocked in nearly 6,000 community service hours.

Harris, whom the Magic acquired in a trade with Milwaukee in late February, said he is finally starting to feel at home in Central Florida. In addition to being a big hit on the court for the Magic, he averaged 17.3 points and 8.5 rebounds in 27 games in Orlando. Tobias made it a point to volunteer for as much community work as possible. Harris got in a two-hour workout at the team’s headquarters on Thursday morning, and then headed over to the Habitat for Humanity event for some painting of porch columns and doorways. The future is looking bright for the Orlando Magic.
