Panthers linebacker Thomas Davis hosted a full weekend of fundraising for his own Defending Dreams Foundation with a Celebrity Golf Tournament at Olde Sycamore Golf Plantation. Almost 190 golfers participated and played alongside other professional athletes such as Steve Smith, Jonathan Stewart, Mike Tolbert, Ron Rivera and Luke Kuechly. Everything took place on the weekend of May 6 to 7, so it was a great way to celebrate and kick off the spring season in Charlotte. In addition to that, Davis also hosted a free football camp at Revolution Park for which over 400 kids showed up to get dirty and test their ball handling skills. Overall it was a fun filled weekend that highlighted a lot of the great things summer has to offer, and made leaps and bounds towards raising funds for Davis’ foundation as well.
The Shellman, Georgia native got his start in sports at a young age when he was a part of his high school football team. This helped him earn an athletic scholarship to attend the University of Georgia where he played under Coach Mark Richt. He entered the 2005 NFL Draft where he was selected in the first round as the 14th overall pick by the Carolina Panthers with whom he still plays for. The 2015 NFC Champion is the winner of this year’s “Whizzer” White NFL Man of the Year award.
Davis showed up in Charlotte this summer to host a fantastic golf event that happened on May 6-7 at the Old Sycamore Golf Plantation. Almost 200 players participated and were able to boost the NFL star’s foundation’s resources.
