Pro Football Hall of Famer Michael Irvin has been announced as the featured speaker for this year’s Best of River Valley Preps Awards Banquet that is happening this summer on June 1st at the Fort Smith Convention Center. Many awards will be handed out to local star student-athletes, who will be recognized for their many and distinguished accomplishments over the last academic year and sports seasons. In addition to that, other awards will be celebrated such as this year’s Outstanding Player of the Year and Coach of the Year for each sport. There will also be individuals recognized for the Male Athlete of the Year and Females Athlete of the Year as well as the Overall Coach of the Year at the ceremony. Irvin is expected to share some of his own congratulatory words, and likely tell some fun stories from his interesting career in professional sports.
The five-time Pro Bowl player spent 11 years playing with the Dallas Cowboys and never went to another team at any point during his career. He was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 2007, and is also currently in the Dallas Cowboys Ring of Honor. These days Irvin is a analyst for the NFL network, and had his own radio show that was aired on Miami’s WQAM station up until 2012. In addition to his distinguished sports career, Irvin has also appeared as a guest on numerous television shows such as “Burn Notice”, “4th and Long”, and “Pros vs Joes”. He also had minor roles in the Adam Sandler movies “The Longest Yard” and “Jack and Jill.”
