Pro Hall of Fame quarterback Kurt Warner has been announced as the keynote speaker for the Unitas fundraiser that is happening on July 29th in west Tennessee. The former athlete will help the Unitas organization raise money for philanthropic purposes in the state and will no doubt make a difference in the upcoming months. Numerous generous corporations gathered at last year’s function and were able to raise more than a quarter of a million dollars, and officials are predicting a similar result for this year’s benefit. Warner is a fantastic choice as a speaker for this year’s event as the coordinators are confident that he will be able to relate to the attendees on a personal level and share some of his most inspiring moments from life in the NFL and what he has been up to since then.
The Burlington, Iowa native played some football in college but went undrafted after leaving school in 1994 and ended up stocking shelves in a grocery store for a mere $5.50 an hour. Since no NFL team was willing to give him a chance, Warner decided to try out for an AFL team and ended up really making a name for himself as a star athlete. This caught the attention of the NFL scouts and they invited him to try out for the Chicago Bears, but ended up signing with the Rams in 1998 instead. In 2005, the former pro signed a one-year contract with the Arizona Cardinals and was named the starting quarterback for the team. He played for Arizona for four seasons before retiring from the field for good. The Super Bowl XXXIV champion and MVP also became a broadcaster for the Iowa Barnstormers during the 2011 Arena Football League season.
Warner will be present at the annual Unitas fundraiser that is happening at the end of next month, which was just recently announced by United Way of West Tennessee. It will be a very inspirational talk and hopefully, will help the organizers raise plenty of funds to assist and benefit local programs.
