Four-time Olympic medalist Bruce Baumgartner made a special appearance at the 35th annual Hospice Golf Tournament at Chambersburg Country Club. The heavyweight wrestler is coming to the event as a favor to a friend of his and tournament sponsor, Theresa Bachman, the assistant director of development of SpiriTrust Lutheran. It will be a fun surprise for the participants to get to see a popular name from 20-30 years ago stop in, even though Baumgartner has very little experience with golf. It will just add a little bit of excitement to the tournament.
The four-time Olympic medalist wrestled at every summer Olympic games even from 1984-1996, and also competed in several World Championships between the years of 1983 and 1995. In addition to that, Baumgartner brought hold three gold medals from the Pan American Games in 1987, 1991, and 1995 as well as a silver in 1983, so it is needless to say he earned his induction into the U.S. Olympic Hall of Fame in 2008. He was also inducted into the Indiana State University Athletic Hall of Fame in 2003, as he was a top competitor at the school during the years he attended while simultaneously earning his bachelor’s degree.
The New Jersey native dropped by this year’s annual Hospice Golf Tournament at Chambersburg Country Club, and thanks to his friend who invited him to drop by it made the event an extra special day.
