Russell Wilson AppearancesAt 5’11’, 203, Russell Wilson is not your prototype NFL quarterback. In February 2012, former NFL quarterback and director of the IMG Madden Football Academy Chris Weinke said of Wilson, “If he was 6-5, he’d probably be the No. 1 pick in the draft. Football wasn’t the only sport he dominated at the University of Wisconsin. Wilson also played Minor League baseball for the Tri-City Dust Devils in 2010 and the Asheville Tourists in 2011 as a second baseman. Wilson is a true athlete all around, which is why the Seahawks choose him with the 75th pick in the 3rd round.

In the off-season, Pete Carroll and the Seattle Seahawks signed former Green Bay Packers QB, Matt Flynn who threw a record setting 6 TD’s in Green Bay’s final game, as Aaron Rodgers rested for the playoffs. That game earned him a hefty 3 year, $19.5 million contract with $10 million guaranteed, but not¬†necessarily a guarantee for the starting job. Pete Carroll also didn’t expect to see what he witnessed this preseason with his new rookie Russell Wilson, who played like a veteran, scrambling and juking all over the field. After just 3 preseason games, he named Wilson the Seahawks starting quarterback for the season opener. He plays like a smaller version of sophomore QB Cam Newton, without all the cocky attitude. Probably because Russell is a devout Christian. On his official Twitter account (@DangeRussWilson), you will find some of his favorite Bible verses.

Russell brings that much needed energy to Seattle, a football city that has never really had a superstar quarterback in the spotlight the past 20 years. They haven’t found that leader that could bring their fans, also known as the “12th Man” that much anticipated Super Bowl title. Matt Hasselbeck came close, but they’ve also had some tough years with Taravis Jackson, Seneca Wallace, Jon Kitna, Rick Mirer, Dave Kreig, Jim Zorn and Hall of Famer Warren Moon, who played 2 years with the Hawks.

I’m making a bold prediction that Russell Wilson will be the next big thing in the NFL. It’s only a matter of time before we see his demand climb for TV commercials, product endorsements, speaking engagements and autograph appearances. The Hawks get a fresh new look this year sporting a sleek neon green, dark blue jersey. By the years end, his #3 jersey will be one of the top selling in the NFL. I’m predicting a 3,200 yards passing, 700 yards rushing with 10 rushing TD season. Now let’s watch and see!
