This past week Shaquille O’Neal was inducted into the Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame. The induction comes as no surprise and O’Neal is joined by longtime rival Yao Ming and NBA Finals counterpart Allen Iverson.
Shaquille O’Neal was born in Newark, New Jersey although he moved around quite a bit as a child before settling in San Antonio, Texas. After graduating high school in San Antonio, O’Neal went on to dominate college basketball at LSU. After a great career at LSU, O’Neal was the number one overall pick in the 1992 NBA draft by the Orlando Magic. After winning rookie of the year and four years of Orlando O’Neal went on to sign with the Los Angeles Lakers where he won three championships and an NBA MVP award. After being traded to the Miami Heat in 2004 O’Neal would win another championship in 2006 before retiring in 2011 in which his final tally of statistics became overwhelming. O’Neal tallied 15 NBA All Star appearances, 8 first team all NBA selections, 4 championships, 3 final MVPs, and 1 League MVP. During and after his playing career, O’Neal made appearances in multiple films and as of 2011 became an analyst for TNT’s airings of NBA basketball. As of this past week O’Neal can also add Hall of Fame to his amazing basketball resume which should come as no surprise to anyone as his dominance on the court was evident throughout his illustrious career.
Earlier this month former NBA big man, Shaquille O’Neal was elected into the 2016 class of Naismith Basketball Hall of Famers. O’Neal’s induction was really only a matter of time as everyone expected it seeing as O’Neal was one of the most dominate players to ever play basketball and some would argue even more dominate than the Big Dipper Wilt Chamberlain.
