Longtime Syracuse basketball coach Jim Boeheim was the guest speaker at the DeWitt Rotary Club’s luncheon on Monday, October 23. This is something the Boeheim takes part in every year and it offers a chance for the Syracuse fans and students to hear from a distinguished coach before this year’s basketball season begins. The luncheon itself will be buffet-style and take place at Traditions at Erie Village, starting at noon sharp. Tickets to get into the event are $22 per person, however, there is a limited amount so reservations are highly recommended if you would like to secure a spot at the luncheon for sure. This will be a great function to attend, especially if you live in the upstate New York area, as it is sure to be a memorable one.
The Lyons, New York native enrolled and attended Syracuse University where he played basketball himself on the school’s team. After graduating from Syracuse, Boeheim went on to play professional basketball with the Scranton Miners, a team a part of the American Basketball League, during which he won two championships and was even a second-team all-star player. He began his coaching career in 1969 when he was hired as a graduate assistant under former coach, Roy Danforth. He was eventually awarded a full-time assistant position which he did for seven years before taking on the role as the head coach in 1976, a job that he still does today. In addition to this, Boeheim is also the United States’ Men’s National Team’s assistant coach for basketball.
Boeheim will be giving his annual speech at this year’s DeWitt Rotary Club’s luncheon that’s happening later on this month on October 23rd in the Erie Village at Tradition. Tickets are just $22 while they last, so it’s suggested that those who are interested in attending make their reservations early.
