Booking The Harlem GlobetrottersThe first professional basketball game in Brooklyn’s Barclays Center will not feature Deron Williams, Joe Johnson or any Brooklyn Nets players. On October 7th, it will feature a 7-foot-8 English center, a female sharpshooter who starred at Temple and plenty of good ball handling as the Harlem Globetrotters will take the court on Sunday in a game against the visiting Global Select, as their traditional opponents, the Washington Generals, are taking some time off to retool.

The Globetrotters have played on aircraft carriers, ice rinks and gyms all across the world. They have entertained thousands of fans and were even featured in episodes of “Scooby Doo.” But the team has never played in the borough directly to Manhattan’s right, until the week of Oct 7th.

To build excitement for the team’s first game in Brooklyn, five members of the Globetrotters, including Franklin, Paul Sturgess (the 7-foot-8 center), Fatima Maddox (the Temple star), Donte Harrison (a Brooklyn native) and Brawley Chisolm, will march across the Brooklyn Bridge on Wednesday at noon.

As the team makes its way across the bridge, they will be spinning pink basketballs to promote breast cancer awareness, and when they arrive in Brooklyn, borough president Marty Markowitz will be there to welcome them, and to declare Oct. 7, the date of the game, as “Globetrotter Day.”
