Heisman Trophy Winner Tim Tebow was the featured speaker at the Freed-Hardeman University’s annual Benefit Dinner that happened on Friday, December 1st in Henderson, Tennessee. The event was nearly sold out and raised roughly $1.5 million dollars for scholarships at FHU. President of the university, David Shannon, commented that they were thrilled to have Tebow as a speaker and noted that his “sportsmanship, character, and philanthropy have helped young people around the world…” and that he was a perfect fit for the event. Overall, Tebow was a show stopper and did a fantastic job of delivering his story.
The Florida native is a son of two missionaries and as a result, he was born overseas in the Philippines. Tebow was homeschooled for many years but then ended up attending a local high school where he was able to play as the school’s football quarterback. He ended up receiving an athletic scholarship to attend the University of Florida where he quickly became a star player under the head coach, Urban Meyer. and graduated from the institution in 2009. The quarterback then entered the 2010 NFL Football Draft and was selected in the first round as the 25th overall pick by the Denver Broncos, with whom he played with for two seasons before being traded to the New York Jets. He did a brief time with the New England Patriots and the Philadelphia Eagles but is currently on the market to sign a new contract.
Tebow was a fantastic speaker at this year’s Freed-Hardeman University’s annual Benefit Dinner that occurred earlier this month. He was able to help the educational institution raise money for scholarships while sharing his incredible story of endurance.
