At 84-years-old, sports broadcaster Vin Scully will return to the broadcast booth for a 64th season, the Dodgers announced today. According to the team, this is the longest such run in sportscasting history.

Scully is one of the last links to the golden age of baseball broadcasting, beginning his career as Red Barber’s understudy with the Brooklyn Dodgers in 1950. He’s been honored with the Hall of Fame’s Ford C. Frick award for broadcasting excellence, and is known for his signature introduction, “It’s time for Dodger Baseball.”

Scully remarked that he sees new hope with the Dodgers new owners, stating, “The new ownership of the Dodgers has revitalized the city, the team, the fans and myself. I am so convinced of their great purpose and leadership that I eagerly look forward to joining them in pursuit of the next Dodgers championship.”

His familiar voice is sure to be welcomed by many Dodgers fans, and even baseball fans across the nation. A famed and beloved sports broadcaster is a great way to draw crowds and increase traffic, in much the same way that a Hall of Fame baseball player has the power to do.
