Aaron Boone was born March 9, 1973, in La Mesa, Californiaand is a former Major League Baseball infielder. He played for the CincinnatiReds, New York Yankees, Cleveland Indians, Florida Marlins, WashingtonNationals, and Houston Astros.
Boone hit an 11th inning home run off Tim Wakefield during Game 7 of the 2003ALCS which gave the New York Yankees a 65 victory over the Boston Red Sox. TheYankees won the game and the series on the home run, thus prolonging the Sox'Curse of the Bambino for one more year. On February 27, 2004, Boone was cut from the Yankee rosterafter tearing a knee ligament during a pick-up basketball game played inviolation of his contract with the Yankees. He was replaced at third base byformer Texas Rangers shortstop Alex Rodriguez. Since the Yankees would mostlikely not have tried to obtain Rodriguez if Boone had not been injured, it hasbeen jokingly dubbed by some as the most important basketball injury in thehistory of baseball. During the 2004 season, the Yankees expressed an interestin re-signing Boone to play second base in 2005, replacing Enrique Wilson andMiguel Cairo, but Boone instead signed a two-year contract with the ClevelandIndians.
He is the son of former catcher and manager Bob Boone, the brother of All Starwinner of four gold gloves, Bret Boone, the brother of former Cincinnati Redsminor leaguer, Matt Boone and the grandson of former major leaguer Ray Boone.He is a descendant of pioneer Daniel Boone. He is married to Playboy PlaymateLaura Cover (Miss October 1998), and together they have a son. As a child,Boone hung out in the Phillies clubhouse with Pete Rose Jr., his brother BretBoone, Ryan Luzinski, and Mark McGraw.
