Ben Crenshaw Biography

Born on January 11, 1952, Ben Crenshaw is an American professional golfer.

He attended Austin High School and University of Texas where he played golf and won three NCAA Championships from 1971 up to 1973. He became professional a professional player in 1973. He was playing for the Ryder Cup team for four times in 1981, 1983, 1987 and 1995 respectively. In the year 1984 he won in The Masters event. In 1987, he became one of the few players in history to record top-ten finishes in all four major championships in the same season. In 1991, he was given the Bob Jones Award, the highest honor bestowed by the United States Golf Association in recognition of distinguished sportsmanship in golf. He finished with 19 on the PGA Tour and won his second Masters Victory in 1995.

He became the captain of the United States Ryder Cup team for the matches at The Country Club, Brookline, Massachusetts in 1999. Outside the PGA Tour, he also won several events of which it includes individual and team titles in the World Cup of Golf in 1988. He was in the top-10 of the Official World Golf Rankings starting from 1987 up to 1989 for a total of 80 weeks. He was considered as one of the best putters in the history of golf. He was inducted into the World Golf Hall of Fame in 2002. He is also the 2006 Kappa Alpha Order Sportsman of the Year. In recent times, he is noted as a golf course designer, working in partnership with Bill Coore.
