Brian Burke Biography

Born on June 30, 1955, Brian Burke is an American-Canadian hockey executive. In recent times, he is serving as the President and General Manager of the Toronto Maple Leafs. He was also the General Manager for the United States national men's ice hockey team for the year 2010 Winter Olympics held at Vancouver.

In his early times, he attended Providence College where he was playing for the Friars Division-I ice hockey team in his senior year and served as the team captain. In 1977, he played seven games with the Springfield Indians of the American Hockey League (AHL). He then plated for one year in the AHL with the Maine Mariners who won the AHL Calder Cup Championship in that year. After his college, he became an NHL player agent. He was hired in 1987 to be the Director of Hockey Operations for the Vancouver Canucks. After that he became the General Manager of the Hartford Whalers for two seasons. In 1998, he was already the General Manager of the Vancouver Canucks.

After his career at the Canucks, he started working as an analyst for NHL games on both CBC and TSN. He won the Stanley Cup with the Anaheim Ducks as the GM during the 2006 and 2007 NHL season. The following year, he was the President and General Manager of the Toronto Maple Leafs. He was the 13th non-interim General Manager of the club and the first to be American-born.
