Ray Fosse Biography
Born on April 4, 1947, Raymond Earl Fosse is a former professional baseball player. He played as a catcher during the Major Leagues. He was drafted in the first round of the 1965 amateur draft by the Cleveland Indians. He was the Indians' first ever draft pick, as 1965 was the first year of the Major League Baseball Draft.
In 1967, Fosse made his Major League debut and then turned to minor leagues the following year. That was in the year 1970 when he joined the Cleveland Indians. He was been awarded in the 1970 All-Star Game for having the longest American League hitting streak since 1961.
He became very famous in the last play of the 1970 All-Star Game by being bowled over by the Cincinnati however his career has been marked with a lot of injuries. Still he won the American League Gold Glove Award and won his second consecutive Gold Glove Award the following year. He was traded to the Oakland Athletics in 1973 and they won the American League Western Division pennant. In this year, he became a member of the World Series Champion. Their victory repeated in the year 1974 during the World Series. He was again traded to the Cleveland Indians, year 1976 after his injury and missed the division title in 1975 and then trade next to Seattle Mariners in 1977. He finished the entire year with the Mariners and then he signed a contract to play for the Milwaukee Brewers but unfortunately, he suffered injuries again causing him to return from playing on the next two years. Fosse was named to the 100 Greatest Cleveland Indians in 2001.
Aside from his baseball career, he was working as a color analyst for the Oakland Athletics' radio and television broadcaster, as well as being a color commentator on CSN California since 1986.
